In June 2022, the MITRE Corporation released a new paper on "A Research Vision for an American Transportation Future," written by Dr. Ford and his MITRE colleagues Nadya Huleatt, Jillian Humphreys, and Becca Lehner. In it, they offer a novel, human-centric analysis and vision statement for the kind of research agenda needed to take advantage of emerging possibilities for the future of transportation in the United States. Dr. Ford's article on the conceptual challenges of "tailoring" nuclear deterrence -- and suggesting a more robust and muscular alternative approach -- was published in Missouri State University's journal Defense & Strategic Studies Online (DASSO) in July 2026.
